September 9, 10 and 11
Join us in exploring the eastern Sierra and Mammoth Lakes Area
Greetings South Coast Field Trip aficionados! It's time to sign up for our Annual Trip!
As long discussed, the upcoming Field Trip will focus on the eastern Sierra region between Bishop and Mono Lakes. The Field Trip will be conducted the weekend of September 9th, 10th and 11th. Friday September 9th is an optional day but we have booked the campground if you would like to show up early.
On Saturday September 10th we will be hopping in personal vehicles (carpooling is encouraged!) and travelling north from our campground to Crowley Lake and then heading north up to Mono Lake. Along the way there are several places we plan to stop to discuss glaciations, volcanic activity and evidence of faulting.
On Sunday September 11th, we will drive from our campground in Mammoth down to Bishop and focus on mineralogy and hopefully stop to see some landslides. The Field Trip will conclude in Bishop, allowing folks to either return home or continue their eastern Sierra exploration.
A field Trip sign up form is included in the link below. Please fill it out and mail it in with your check. The first ten students who sign up will be granted scholarships covering the expense of the Trip, a joint offering from Steve Zigan and the SCGS.
